Celebrating Our Own

26 August 2016 to 27 August 2017

The 60th anniversary of the founding of the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery provided the opportunity to celebrate our significant milestones and achievements. The founders' vision for the Gallery was to show the best of contemporary art. This mandate continues to this day, demonstrating KWAG's commitment to sharing the work of today's artists. Celebrating Our Own is dedicated to the art in the Permanent Collection that demonstrates the vitality of cultural practice and support within Waterloo Region. Ranging from the early 1900s to the present, this selection provides a rich array of visual expression. From Homer Watson, a painter much admired by Queen Victoria, to Melissa Doherty, a graduate of the University of Waterloo Fine Arts program producing exciting new work, these individuals have enhanced our cultural landscape during their lifetimes and beyond, and have helped to define us.
