Family Sunday | March 2021

Enjoy KWAG Family Sunday all month long with your loved ones at home! Our art activities are now being offered virtually to support the safety and well-being of our community. A new collection of art-making demonstrations and storytelling resources, to view and download, will be launched at the beginning of every month. 

March 2021: Follow Your Own Stars

March Family Sunday is your last chance to engage with By Your Own Stars, an exhibition of works from the Permanent Collection on view at KWAG until 21 March. This month’s activities take inspiration from the artists represented in this exhibition, encouraging you to embrace your individuality and to follow your own stars. 

Check in throughout the month for instructional videos for painting abstract creations inspired by works in By Your Own Stars. Any acrylic or craft paint, and materials from around the house, are all you need to create your own colourful abstracts.

Our first Abstracts at Home video will show you how to make a textured painting inspired by Acchroche-Toi by Michel-Thomas Tremblay. To follow along with this video, you will need a ​piece of card stock or a canvas panel, scrap tissue paper, white glue, acrylic or craft paint and paint brushes.

Our second Abstracts at Home video shows you how to make a layered squeegee-style painting inspired by Enlightenment by Joseph Drapell. To follow along with this video, you will need a pencil, a ruler, a pair of scissors, an empty thin cardboard box, masking tape, an old gift card, a paper plate or other surface to use as a palette, your choice of three to four paint colours, and a popsicle stick.
