She will consider the terms reciprocity, remediation and remembering in relation to the exhibition. Myers will also discuss the legacy of late Mi’kmaw artist Mike MacDonald, whose powerful work and life is the emanating glow at the heart of this exhibition, and the twin re-planting of his medicine and butterfly garden Planting one Another at KWAG and the Woodlands Cultural Centre in Brantford.

Lisa Myers is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change and holds a York Research Chair in Indigenous Art and Curatorial Practice. As a curator and artist with a keen interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, her research focuses on contemporary Indigenous art considering the varied values and functions of elements such as medicine plants and language, sound, and knowledge. Through many media and materials including socially engaged art approaches, her art practice examines place, underrepresented histories/present/futures, and collective forms of knowledge exchange. In addition to curatorial work based in Toronto, her projects include four touring exhibitions: wnoondwaamin | we hear them (2016); Recast (2014); the co-curated project Reading the Talk (2014) and Carry Forward (2017) at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, which subsequently toured across Canada. Myers is a member of Beausoleil First Nation and is based in both Toronto and Port Severn, ON.
