Access and the Arts | Saturday 22 September

A presentation and discussion led by artist Aislinn Thomas about access in art spaces

So often we use the word "accessible" as a shorthand for wheelchair accessibility, which doesn't affirm the variety of barriers people with disabilities (and those without named disabilities) face.

What can we do as artists, institutions, and community members to be truly and radically inclusive? What accessibility features do we need in order to participate in public life?

Led by local artist Aislinn Thomas, this presentation seeks to broaden the definition of accessibility, make the case for a relational approach to access, and speak to the imaginative potential available to those who wish to fold points of access into their work and spaces. This workshop will include ample time for discussion and sharing.

This workshop is part of the Flourishing project at Tangled Arts + Disability. For more information on Flourishing and Tangled Art + Disability, visit tangledarts.org

Access Information

KWAG has a barrier free entrance. ASL interpretation will be provided. Please help us keep this a scent-free space. The Gallery does not currently have wheelchair accessible washrooms, and we regret this barrier to access. KWAG is working with our venue partners to secure an accessible washroom for this event.

Please let us know if you have any access questions or needs, we will work with you to make your participation possible - please contact Annabelle Girard at agirard@kwag.on.ca or phone 519.579.5860 x 214.
