I feel the biggest tie between my painting and the theme of "Through a New Lens" is the surrealism of the piece, and the "twisting" way it relates to its influences. Some of my favourite art from history, despite its flaws is the medieval era art depicting religious iconography. While the subject of religion holds no significance to me, the artistic aspect alone - and the strange, stlyized way in which the figures are depicted - has always stuck in my mind. The style has influenced my own in many ways. Aspects of my painting like the flat, stylized affect, monochrome colours, subject of a divine looking figure, and gold accents/halos were all inspired by it. Only twisted to be more eerie, mysterious and ghostly.
