Painted in the colourful palette characteristic of naïve art, The Garden Concert depicts a playful scene in the front garden of what appears to be a Mediterranean manor house. Musicians are surrounded by the people of the house gathered around a luxuriously set table. Others look on while leaning out of windows, perching in the trees or sitting on the stairs while taking part in the entertainment. Images depicting lighthearted gatherings such as these have taken on new meaning over the last year, reminding us of past joyful afternoons spent taking in live entertainment, and giving us hope that we will be able to gather together again in this way.
