Family Sunday | November 2020
Enjoy KWAG Family Sunday all month long with your loved ones at home! Our art activities are now being offered virtually to support the safety and well-being of our community. A new collection of art-making demonstrations, educational videos, and activity worksheets, to view and download, will be launched at the beginning of every month.
November: We Remember
Inspired by the stories of military duty seen in Black Drones in the Hive, KWAG presents a month of Remembrance Day art and learning, in partnership with the Kitchener Public Library.
Following the theme of remembrance, activity sheets are inspired by Deanna Bowen’s examination of her family background, prompting families to reflect on their own personal histories with a guide for intergenerational interviews.
Black Drones in the Hive features archival materials documenting the military history of Black soldiers in Waterloo Region. Follow our video demonstration to create your own poppy artwork as a symbol of remembrance.
Materials you need to create your poppy artwork:
- A square piece of paper or cardstock
- Red collage materials (tissue paper, magazine clippings, leaves, whatever is available)
- Small piece of black paper
- Glue stick
Our poppy art-making activity video will be available for viewing starting Sunday 1 November.
Participate in Virtual Story Time and get suggestions for what to read in November, with resources from Kitchener Public Library.
KPL Storytime for Family Sunday will be available for viewing starting Sunday 1 November.
We'd love to show off your masterpieces on our social media! Use the hashtag #KWAGFamilySunday and tag us in your posts to share what you've created at home.
