Gallery Tour Guide

Position Summary
The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery is seeking contract Gallery Tour Guides to join our team and deliver studio-based and exhibition-related programming throughout the year. Gallery Guides are responsible for planning and leading tours of exhibitions at KWAG.

The Gallery Guide position is ideally suited for working art lovers and working artists who are interested in engaging with the Gallery and contributing their talent to the community in an educational context. Hours will vary according to week and season, though every effort is made to provide Gallery Guides with regular work throughout the year.

Gallery Guides work in the following areas:

Public Tours
Gallery Guides provide tours of current exhibitions to the public and at special events. Additionally, KWAG offers specialized accessibility tours, as well as a Stroller Tour series, that Guides may lead. While guides typically offer tours of current exhibitions – they may also be asked to lead tours outside of the gallery space, such as a public art tour in downtown Kitchener.

School Tours
School Programs at the gallery offer unique opportunities for students to connect to the world of art and ideas as well as to learn directly from original works of art. Designed to relate to current exhibitions as well as support the visual arts curriculum, KWAG School Programs emphasize an interactive approach to learning about art and are delivered both at the Gallery and offsite in the classroom. Programs at the gallery are 2 hours and include a one-hour tour (led by a Gallery Guide) and a one-hour studio workshop (led by an Art Instructor).

Desired Qualifications
•    Studies or demonstrated knowledge of Arts Education, Fine Arts, Art History, and/or Contemporary Art;
•    Teaching or education experience (formal or informal settings);
•    Excellent communication and presentation skills;
•    Ability to interact with the public in a positive, enthusiastic, and professional manner; 
•    Ability to facilitate creative discussion and experimentation relating to artistic process;
•    Knowledge of Ontario visual arts curriculum and positive classroom management skills, if leading school tours;
•    Ability to work flexible hours;
•    Current Vulnerable Sector Police check required.
