The Magpie River in Québec’s Côte-Nord region is one of the last great rivers to flow freely in this part of the world. In a spectacular mountainous landscape, this mighty river flows through an unspoiled boreal forest inhabited by caribou, wolves, and bears. I Am the Magpie River explores the historic 2021 milestone as the river became the first ecosystem in Canada to be granted legal personhood and inherent rights.
