Annie Dunning is a Canadian artist who specializes in mixed media paintings, sculptures and installations. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1974 and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo in 2001. Dunning’s work is often inspired by natural elements, and she uses a variety of materials to create her pieces, including wax, paper and found objects.
Dunning has exhibited her work in galleries across Canada and the United States, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery. She has a longstanding relationship with the Gallery and has been features in several exhibitions over the years. One of her most notable series, Spectre, was exhibited at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery in 2016. This piece was acquired as a part of KWAG's Permanent Collection following the exhibition. The series explores the relationship between light and shadow and features large-scale mixed media pieces that incorporate elements of painting, sculpture and installation. Through her work, Dunning challenges viewers to question their perceptions of space and the natural world.
