Artist Walk and Talk | Thursday 23 August

Join Tara Cooper, Žana Kozomora, Amanda Rhodenizer and Senior Curator Crystal Mowry as they tour our summer exhibition, The Brain is wider than the Sky. The participating artists will guide the audience through the Gallery, providing a personalized introduction to the experiences and interests that shape their practice.

Tara Cooper draws from meteorology and creative non-fiction, resulting in projects housed under the moniker Weather Girl. The outcomes combine print, found objects, sculpture, text and video with installation. Recent accomplishments include residencies at Haystack, Vermont Studio Center, Ox-Bow, Anderson Ranch, The Wassaic Project and Landfall Trust, as well as several arts council grants. She is also the co-editor of Printopolis—a recent publication that examines contemporary print culture. Tara is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Department of Fine Arts.

Žana Kozomora is an emerging Canadian artist born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and based in Kitchener, Ontario. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Honours B.A. Fine Arts Studio Practice program.  She has completed studio residencies with the Dundas Valley School of Art and Centre[3] for Print and Media Arts in Hamilton, and recently exhibited her work with Xpace Cultural Centre, Factory Media Centre, and screened video work as part of Photophobia: Contemporary Moving Image Festival at the Hamilton Artists Inc in partnership with the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Amanda Rhodenizer currently lives and works Waterloo, Ontario. She earned a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2006, and an MFA from the University of Waterloo in 2014. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held most recently at ARTsPLACE Artist-Run Centre in Annapolis Royal, NS, and Open Sesame and Rotunda Gallery, both in Kitchener. Her work has also been included in numerous group exhibitions, notably at Art Mûr, the Orillia Museum of Art & History, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. In 2017 she was awarded a residency at the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Centre at Fool’s Paradise.
