"The artwork I am submitting responds to the theme Rework/Revisit in a contrasting approach to the typical response: my artwork addresses women breaching gender expectations. Women are always tied down to a set ideal and I wanted to revisit the idea that women can thrive and be strong outside of society’s standards. The woman in the portrait shows strength despite the chains she bears; her resolve is clear even with her barriers. In terms of the composition, I am very pleased with the framing nature of the tribe-style text. The radial balance creates a strong frame to bring the focus back to the asymmetrical portrait of the powerful female figure. It also ties into the supernatural energy of the overall piece."
