"This work was influenced by the work of John Kissick, particularly his Groovefucker series. I was inspired by the Hard Edge movement and techniques used by artists of this movement. I appropriated Kissick's use of small dots to create texture, familiar childlike shapes, dripping paint, and multiple layers of different shapes and textures. Kissick uses some hard edge technique in the background of his works, and I chose to also use this idea for the background of my work, but to make it a more significant component of the image."
